$60 enhanced web hosting plan from iSERVE

What is the Difference between UNIX and Windows® Web hosting?

For all intents and purposes they both accomplish the same task... that of serving your Web pages to the world. We prefer that our customers use our UNIX based web servers and as such, this is the default setting when a customer adds a domain name to their iSERVE account.

We recommend that our customers only use a Microsoft® Web server if they specifically require Microsoft ASP® coding or Microsoft Access® Databases.  Every effort is made to keep all of our Web servers as secure as possible and our Microsoft® Web servers are security patched as soon as new updates become available.

Customers on our iSERVE Enhanced Plan can 'mix and match' between Web servers all on the one iSERVE account and at no additional charge.

What sort of functionality do you offer?

Click here for a list of all the features of our Web Hosting Plans.

All of our servers are running secured versions of the Linux operating system. We are now also running Windows 2000® Web Servers for customers that require Microsoft ASP®.

If you need a specific feature, drop us an e-mail and we will see what we can do... we are adding more features all the time but any input that you can give us will help greatly.

FTP stands for FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL and is the standard method for transferring files across the internet.

To make a successful FTP Connection, you will need the following information:

Your iSERVE username and password are used as your FTP username and password.  If you have joined iSERVE and registered a domain name, your FTP address will be...

or if you have not transferred the domain name to iSERVE as yet, your FTP address can be ...

ftp.iserve.co.nz

How do I upload my Web site?

You will first need to make an FTP connection to our Web server, using the details above.

Once you have connected, you will see a folder named "yourdomainname.co.nz". Open that folder. Inside you will see some more folders, one of these will be called "htdocs" .. open this folder.
The "htdocs" folder is where you should upload your web sites files [documents].

When you first make a connection into the "htdocs" folder, you will see a file named "index.php", it is safe for you to delete this file, as this is just a placeholder file until you upload your web site.
