What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing or Utility Computing is a new model of server leasing which allows you to only use what you use. You can configure a computer to specifically meet your CPU / RAM / Storage needs and then use it when you need it. You are not tied into long term
contracts.
What can I do with my cloud computer?
A cloud computer is the same as any other server you might want to use. You could use it simply as a webserver, mail server, LAMP server, DB server. Whatever you need. Its only point of difference is how its billed.
How is it Billed?
We bill on a per hour basis for each of the components you are using. Usage is rounded up to the nearest hour.
How do I pay?
All cloud services must be paid for via Credit Card. You will be billed monthly for your usage. If your payment is declined your services will be suspended.
No server will complete provisioning unless the credit card payment has been approved.
What does standby mean?
Depending on your use for a cloud computer, you might find that you don't actually need to have it running 24*7, and that's the thing with Cloud computing, you don't need to pay for a server 24*7 if you don't use it! When a server is in standby, you
obviously cannot access it, however all your files etc, remain where they are. You can decide to turn it back on when you are ready ( or schedule the server to turn back on automatically). Examples of when you might do this are, if you are running your
cloud as a back up server, you may only want it turned on for 3 hours a day while the back up runs, and have it on standby for the other 19 hours of the day, or you maybe using your cloud server as a central office server, and turn it off when the office
closes during week days and over the weekend. While your server is in standby, there is a charge of 1.5c per hour.
When will I be billed?
We will bill you for your usage at the end of your billing cycle, which is monthly. So if you sign up on the 9th of the month, you will be billed on the 9th of the following month for your usage to date. At any time you can check on your
charges to date by logging into your cloud console, and viewing the billing details in there under the cloud server details option
How long before I can use my server?
The server is provisioned almost instantly. Once its provisioned, it only needs to boot and then you can get access to it via the VNC interface, or you can shell directly to it.
How much space does each server come with?
All servers come with a minimum of 15Gb of disk allocated. If you require more space you can add cloud files to your server for off server storage.
Do you back up our cloud servers?
We do not backup the cloud servers.
Can I automatically turn the server on or off?
Yes, using the power schedule tools provided, you can turn on or off your server to your own schedule. You can also request the system to notify you via e-mail when these actions occur as a success or failure.
